Eileen Guenther

Eileen Guenther is Professor of Church Music at Wesley Theological Seminary, where she teaches music and worship courses and is Director of Chapel Music.  She holds degrees in English and organ from the University of Kansas and graduate degrees in musicology and organ from The Catholic University of America. Dr. Guenther conducts workshops on music and social justice, global music, Spirituals, and clergy-music relations for church, musical and denominational organizations around the country. Eileen has led eight groups of Wesley Seminary students on immersion trips to South Africa. She has also been Visiting Lecturer at Africa University in Mutare, Zimbawe, and taught as part of the United Methodist Church’s Global Praise Team in Uganda and Cȏte d’Ivoire.Eileen served three terms as president of the American Guild of Organists and her organ recital performances have taken her around the USA as well as to Europe, Asia and South America. Her first book, Rival or a Team: Clergy-Musician Relationships in the 21st Century, was published in June, 2012 by MorningStar Music Publishers was widely acclaimed and her second book, In Their Own Words: Slave Life and the Power of Spirituals was published in June, 2016.
